چکیده

We study self-organized navigation in a heterogeneous robotic swarm consisting of two types of robots: small wheeled robots, called foot-bots, and flying robots that can attach to the ceiling, called eye-bots. The task of foot-bots is to navigate back and forth between a source and a target location. The eye-bots are placed in a chain on the ceiling, connecting source and target using infrared communication. Their task is to guide foot-bots, by giving local directional instructions. The problem we address is how the positions of eye-bots and the directional instructions they give can be adapted, so that they indicate a path that is efficient for foot-bot navigation, also in the presence of obstacles. We propose an approach of mutual adaptation, where foot-bots move according to eye-bot instructions, and eye-bots move according to observed foot-bot behavior. Our solution is inspired by pheromone based navigation of ants, as eye-bots serve as mobile stigmergic markers for foot-bot navigation. We evaluate the system’s performance in a range of simulation experiments.

Cooperative Stigmergic Navigation in a Heterogeneous Robotic Swarm

Abstract. We study self-organized cooperation in a heterogeneous robotic swarm consisting of two sub-swarms. The robots of each sub-swarm play distinct roles based on their different characteristics. We investigate how the swarm as a whole can solve complex tasks through a self-organized process based on local interactions between the sub-swarms. We focus on an indoor navigation task, in which ...

Review and Analysis of Different Methodologies Used in Mobile Robot Navigation

Robot navigation is a fundamental problem in robotics. Navigation associated to mobile robot is the problem of finding a feasible path form one configuration to another by avoiding the obstacles along its path. Various approaches have been developed to cope with this problem and still researchers are keen to develop the new techniques which would make the process smoother and faster. Selection ...

Advance Particle Swarm Optimization-Based Navigational Controller For Mobile Robot

While the robot is inmotion, path planning should follow the three aspects: (1) acquire the knowledge from its environmental conditions. (2) determine its position in the environment and (3) decision-making and execution to achieve its highest-order goals. The present research work aims to develop an efficient particle swarm optimizationbased path planner of an autonomous mobile robot. In this ...

A New Solution for the Cyclic Multiple-Part Type Three-Machine Robotic Cell Problem based on the Particle Swarm Meta-heuristic

In this paper, we develop a new mathematical model for a cyclic multiple-part type threemachine robotic cell problem. In this robotic cell a robot is used for material handling. The objective is finding a part sequence to minimize the cycle time (i.e.; maximize the throughput) with assumption of known robot movement. The developed model is based on Petri nets and provides a new method to calcul...
